Hatchery Management Trainee

This position will report to the Hatchery Manager and/or Assistant Hatchery Manager for the following responsibilities:

  • Learn room and machine environment requirements—including the relationship of the room environments to incubation and including proper machine profiles for maximum hatchability and chick quality.
  • Learn and be able to apply the duties of site safety coordinator, including compliance and use of all safety related methods, tools and protective wear.
  • Learn all maintenance activities performed, including scheduling and PM procedures.
  • Learn and be able to supervise and administer all egg room and setting procedures and egg transfer duties and schedules.
  • Learn and become familiar and monitor all procedures for the compliance to the Standard Operating Procedure manual
  • Learn Aviagen’s bio-security policies and be able to monitor and enforce for compliance all bio-security rules and regulations.
  • Learn animal welfare policies and procedures and be able to conduct monthly audits and training to insure compliance.
  • Have a complete and working knowledge of federal TSA product shipping, auditing and employee training requirements.
  • Learn and have a thorough knowledge of accounting procedures accounts payable/purchase orders, end of month A/P accrual ; year to date monthly expense report – monitor, audit and compare to
  • reports bi-weekly
  • Understand and be involved with preparing and presenting annual facility budgets, to include operating expenses, employee head-counts and capital expenditures.
  • Have a working knowledge of all plant inventories including vaccines, maintenance supplies, employee uniforms, chick processing supplies (boxes domestic and international) for example, and be able to manage the inventories and purchase as needed.
  • Learn and be able to perform all telephone/ receptionist duties as required
  • Learn all facility utility permitting regulations and requirements, including sewer, water, electric, and run-off wastewater and have knowledge of testing and written compliance schedules.
  • Assist in all other areas and responsibilities of the hatchery as needed
